AI Unboxed Newsletter

Since the introduction of the AI newsletter, your humble author has been thinking of a better title than “Bitpro AI newsletter” to more aptly reflect my focus on providing something of value in the already crowded world of AI press and blogging.

Because we are mainly a hardware company, the obvious angle is to discuss the hardware infrastructure underpinning AI. So, I have been thinking about what I’m trying to accomplish by writing regularly in a crowded over-hyped (and also paradoxically underappreciated by most) space and have come up with the following.

I’m learning as fast as I can and still feel as if I can’t keep up

So, it stands to reason that others are feeling swept over by this tidal wave of development that seems to occur at a breakneck pace. However, it stands to reason that not every development or breaking article is consequential in the long run. So, it makes sense to try to be a source of signal over time as opposed to a source of breaking news, which often contains noise that is hard to ignore.

While information on software applications is making all the headlines, hardware will be a bandwidth

Hence, it makes sense for a hardware-focused approach to provide insight into more efficiency and alternatives to the rapidly constrained resources competing for real estate, energy, silicon, and capital. As we are a hardware refurbisher and reseller, we are able to tackle at least one bottleneck for the market and if we’re able to present working alternatives for inference to a compute-starved market, I think that aspect needs to be explored.

Scrappy companies may not be making the headlines yet, but experience shows they eventually will be

We’ve worked with many companies, in our capacity as a used hardware provider, that have gone on to be featured in the top headlines in the AI space, but that wasn’t always the case. These companies and their leadership have toiled away in relative obscurity for years before receiving sizeable investments and scaling their way into industry headlines. I’m confident that we can continue to work with winners in the space.
